About us · Est. 1963

Twelve farmers, $720, and a refused loan.

That’s how Prairie Heritage started. Sixty-three years on, we still do exactly what the founders intended: bank with people who couldn’t get banked any other way.

— Sixty-three years —

1963

Founded above a grain elevator

Twelve farmers in Yorkton pooled $720 to start a co-op credit society after the local bank declined them all.

1971

First branch building, Regina

Member-owned chartered. 800 members, $4M in assets.

1986

Expanded into Alberta

Three Alberta credit unions amalgamated into Prairie Heritage. 14,000 members.

1998

Crossed into Manitoba

Brandon and Winnipeg branches added. First fully-online member statements introduced.

2007

First $100M patronage milestone

Cumulative profits returned to members crossed $100M since founding.

2018

Mobile member app launched

Same banking, smaller phone. Built in-house with feedback from 1,200 members.

2024

$2B in assets

Crossed $2B in member assets, still owned 100% by members. No outside shareholders.

2026

63 years, 41,000 members

Still member-owned. Still prairie. Still saying our members’ names when we answer the phone.

— Our four values —

01

Member ownership

Every member holds a $5 share with one vote, regardless of deposit size. The director who decides what we sponsor was elected by you.

02

Profits back to members

After operating costs and reserves, what’s left is returned as patronage. We don’t pay external shareholders, because we don’t have any.

03

Local decision-making

Loan, mortgage, and sponsorship decisions are made at the branch level — by the people who shop at the same grocery store you do.

04

Provincial regulation

We’re regulated by SK / AB / MB, not the federal OSFI. That gives us flexibility on stress-test rules and qualification — flexibility we use to approve more members.

— Board of directors · 2025-26 —

Six members, elected by members.
